Rules for META Tags on Your Website

Posted on 04 December 2009 by nick halmond

One of the most important elements of onsite SEO is the usage of the META title tag. While including keywords in your site’s content and in a META keywords tag usually gains the most attention, the META title tag is certainly not something to be overlooked. Additionally, considering recent developments in the world of SEO it has actually grown in importance. Once you learn how to make use of the proper META tags then you will be able to give yourself an easy boost in the search engines.

First of all, the recent news that has everybody talking is that the major search engines have announced that they no longer use the META keywords tag. In fact, Google hasn’t used the META keywords tag for years. This comes as a surprise to many people who have focused their SEO efforts on this, however everyone can now put the debate to rest. Neither Google nor Yahoo! use META keywords to determine a site’s ranking in the results.

The META title and description tags still remain extremely valuable however in terms of your overall SEO. For your META title, it’s the title that a browser sees when they make a search and see your page listed. It’s also of the utmost importance for making your site be seen as important for a search in the eyes of the search engines themselves.

Therefore you should try to incorporate one or two of your keywords into your META title tag so you can improve your rankings for them. However, while you do this you have to keep the overall character length of your title limited. A good rule of thumb is to keep your title under 65 or 60 characters in length. Anything more and it will get cut off. So do your best to incorporate a few of your keywords while keeping the length down to ensure they get included and displayed.

The META description tag is also still very important for SEO. The description tag is what will be displayed under your title when your page is viewed in the results of the search engines. This is another spot that you can include some keywords and phrases. The length for the description should be approximately 150-160 characters or less.

As mentioned with the META tile tag, the length is of extreme importance with the description tag as well. Anything more than 160 may be overlooked and will only hurt your appearance. So be sure to get to your point quickly, and to include a few phrases without being repetitive or spam like by stuffing one after another in there.

A decade ago it seemed that META keywords were the most important SEO factor. Then as time went on, it became gradually less important, and now it’s not used at all. That’s the way that the world of SEO works. Now, the META title and description tags have gained great importance to helping your ranking. So include them on all of your pages and use them properly to see great SEO results.

Five Steps To Launching Your First Online Business

Posted on 18 August 2009 by Steve Drommel

If you are interested in starting your own online business, you should do some research first. Online businesses are a great opportunity, and can lead to great success. But like every business, there are risks involved. Don’t jump into something without knowing what you are getting into. People who start something up impulsively usually don’t succeed. These are some tips to help you along. It’s a starting point to what will hopefully be a very fruitful endeavor for you.

1: Be sure you have plenty of time to invest in this business. If time is an issue with you already, there is no way you can be successful in starting a business. Any type of business takes time, time, time. You should at least expect to spend 60 hours or more a week when you begin your online business, if you are going it alone. This is time for all the details involved in whatever it is you plan on doing.

2: Recognize who your buyers are, target the un-targeted. Know your customers and target needs that your competitors neglect. Identify common consumer problems and list the ways in which your services can solve them. When consumers shop for services online they are usually looking for a very specific solution to a very specific problem. The key to selling online is to advertise solutions for problems that people need to solve.

3: Research the kind of website that will best represent your company to your clients and choose the appropriate software. The average time a customer glances at a commercial site is 45 seconds. If a prospective customer has a difficult time finding what they are looking for they will move on. Not every website needs to be a complicated jumble of buttons and links. By maintaining perspective and creating a site that is both well designed and easy to navigate, you can maximize the potential for profit. Invest in software that will not only fit your current requirements but also will allow for future business needs.

4: You should know what product or service you want to sell before starting. The best thing to do is figure out what you would think would go over well for the demographics in your area. Then expand from there. If it will work well demographically for you, then will it work well in larger areas? Is this product something that people will want or need? If so, will they want or need more than one? Will they need to buy the product several times from you? Write all these things down, and make an educated decision.

5: If you have any doubt in your mind about starting this at all after doing your research, then don’t proceed. You will end up losing money and determination. It could alter your self-confidence in the event of failure, resulting in a loss of interest in business. In no way do you want that to happen.

If your goal is to run a successful online business, creativity is the key. You will need to do things that other businesses aren’t, in order to steal traffic away from larger sellers. This will mean taking the time to ensure that your site looks right to search engines, taking the time to look for an unsaturated market, advertising in ways that others are not, being willing to lose a little money at first in exchange for long-term gain, and diversifying as much as your budget will allow. Finally, once you find a product niche, stick with it and make it work. Your first year of doing business may be a lean one, but if your startup survives, you may have a successful business for many years to come.

What to Look For In A Web Site Host

Posted on 03 August 2009 by Daniel Rodriguez

Web Hosting Reviews can be a big help in choosing the perfect web host. As a consumer however, you must be careful when reading them and keep in mind exactly what type of website you want to make. Web Hosts are going to have to be set up a certain way if you want to create an online store versus simply a static site.

So how does the simple website developer go about finding the perfect web host? How do you know which features you need and more importantly, which features you can leave to the big shots? Here are a few things the simple website developer will want to consider when reading web hosting reviews and selecting the perfect web host:

Cost: Because your website will be small, you arent going to need to pay for the convenience of having you own server. Therefore, you can choose a low-cost shared hosting plan that offers a smaller amount of disk space and bandwidth. If you plan to grow your website, choose a web host that will allow for growth in the future with disk space and bandwidth upgrades at a reasonable cost.

Ease of use: Shared hosts often take care of many of the mundane and confusing control panel tasks for you. This is due to the face that many people are sharing the same server so they can’t give any one user too much control over the administration of that server.

Tools: Your site may be simple, but make sure you consider the features that you want to have. For example, do you want to be able to add a forum where visitors can share their favorite fruit salad recipes? How about a contact me form so that visitors can give you feedback about the site? Take all of this into consideration before you select a web host.

Access: You may get a great idea for a new fruit salad recipe while eating lunch in an Internet caf on vacation in France. Can you upload your files and access them from any computer, or do you have to be at home on your own computer to work on your site?

Support: Make sure your new hosting option offers some form of phone/email support. Even using a simple host and making a simple website can lead to problems every once in a while. Make sure your host is there to help you.

The perfect web site host for the simple web site is fairly easy to find once you know what to look for. Finding the perfect fit for your website is much more about your needs rather than what the host itself. Make sure you ask the right questions, find the price you are willing to pay, sign up and get to making that perfect site!

Lunarpages Review

Posted on 13 July 2009 by John Thompson

It is important in today’s world to be aware of where things come from and in the lunarpages that the internet represents, if you want to be aware of where things come from, and then you review must be aware of where the money is. There is a saying that you can follow the money to find where things are coming from and in that sense the money is like a chartered road of sorts; it helps you figure out exactly what is going on.

There is a saying that you can follow the money to find where things are coming from and in that sense the money is like a chartered road of sorts; it helps you figure out exactly what is going on.

If the website is there solely to make money, the question then becomes what happens to the quality of the review? In a lot of cases, what you will find is that not a whole lot happens to it. This is because a lot of the industry leading websites have gotten to the point where they really understand that web hosting reviews need to be impartial to really get more customers and therefore they do not purposely try to make their reviews positive. There are some companies that do however and the easiest way to figure out which is which is by simply taking a look at a lot of their reviews. If you see positive review after positive review, then you know you lunarpages what that particular website says with a grain of salt. The reviews might still be useful, but they require cross-referencing with other sources of information.
