Web Hosting – Mistakes & How to Solve Them?

Posted on 04 January 2010 by Anand Maheshwari

Web hosting is a very strategic decision for any business and therefore, it should be very cautious in choosing the right kind of service provider. Entrepreneurs tend to be quite prudent about opting for the web hosting company but still they tend to commit some simple mistakes. Here is a list of the most common mistakes that should be avoided by any prospective web master:

Every one gets attracted to the cheaply priced websites, but there are many disadvantages that come along with these servers, like denial of common services. This usually occurs because mostly in the case of low priced servers, the owner has oversold the bandwidth. As a result, due to a large number of sites on the same server, the server often gets into a downtime. Try to be a smart Webmaster and use judgment to avoid falling into the trap of buying these websites. These kind of amazingly low charging websites can also prove to be a hindrance in coping up with increasing traffic due to their limited technical resources.

Often, webmasters tend to go for the purchase of websites without a specific enquiry on their part on what are the actual needs of their website. So, to make sure that you get a deal with the right web host just make a list of all the resources that your site will require when you decide to go for an up gradation. This will actually facilitate an expansion of your website as then you can discuss your needs with the provider.

Another common mistake that the users tend to do is purchasing the space from an auction. These deals are quite attractive but they usually come with a plethora of in-built conditions and regulations that curb any future expansion of the site in terms of disk space.

A very simple fallacy that all the webmasters usually indulge in is not having the contact numbers and e-mail addresses of the service providers. This leads to huge problems in times of server downtime in restoring the server. If you have the requisite contact numbers, getting in touch with the technical personnel for troubleshooting can be expedited. A key to choosing the optimal service provider is always to go through the host’s website. It will give you important clues about how he/she is going to develop your website. Any poorly designed host’s website clearly indicates that they are not going to devote much efforts to the user’s website.

A website’s key strength is its software because it defines the resistance of the site. One should always try to have the latest versions of software installed on the website to protect it from any kind of virus and hacker’s attacks. Ask the host to have a back up of the site, so that it can be replaced easily in the case of a system failure or crashing.

In the end, try to check whether the testimonials published on the set are authentic or not. You can get these numbers from the web hosting service provider, but if they are reluctant in providing them to you, then definitely the reviews are definitely fake.

Web Hosting Service Providers

Posted on 04 January 2010 by Anand Maheshwari

Web hosting companies are a must in today’s scenario when online presence has become a necessity. When each and every product is being sold on the net today, a company having a poorly attended site tends to lose on important customers. This realizes the strategic importance of having a reliable web hosting service provider for a company. Now, let us discuss the various kinds of website hosting opportunities that are available in the market today:

Dedicated server: It requires putting up your own server and arranging a network provider. Once, you have a server totally committed to your site, and then your data is also secure from any kind of hacking. If you are a very large corporation and you put an utmost priority to the site, then this is a perfect option for you. One of the most hassle-worry options for any Webmaster, it surely gives an ample amount of time to him to put all the strengths of the business towards expanding the core activities.

There is also another advantage of high maintenance that one can avail with a dedicated server. By employing specialized technical personnel, network redundancy can be reduced to the minimum. These employees can also continuously make use of sophisticated content organization software and web administration tools for improving the content site. Having a committed server surely gives a chance to the webmasters to have a desired website quality.

Shared web hosting- One of the most widespread forms of web hosting, this involves sharing a server (bandwidth and disk space) with other sites and there are many sites in a single account. But, there are some restrictions that are involved with this kind of a service like low storage space. But, the upside is that you are sharing the cost with other webmasters. In this kind of a service, you have the option of getting someone to manage the site for you or you can take care of such complexities yourself.

Co-location hosting is also emerging as a very successful form of web hosting in which a Webmaster can lease a server in a distantly located server farm. The service provider is in complete charge of taking care of downtime and network availability. The advantages of this kind of a system are that the Webmaster can run its site from any place inspite of his/her own location.

Private server hosting: One of the new concepts to emerge in the field of web hosting, there is a logical division of the server into each site. Each and very partition behaves as an autonomous server. So, it implies a lot of dedicated sites within a single sever itself. A Webmaster availing this kind of a service gets the double benefits of both shared and dedicated web hosting. The costs are quite low and still you exercise a complete power over the functionalities of the website.

Web hosting is indeed a very plausible solution for any Webmaster who wants to take the business to newer heights and wants to avail professional web hosting services to attain this goal.

Website Updates – Does Outsourcing Save Money?

Posted on 28 November 2009 by Tony Herman

It seems like getting the company website updated is like pulling teeth. The in-house IT department does not seem to want to do them right away or else it takes way too long to get one, simple update completed. The work is not difficult, so you wonder why this is such a problem. There are some reasons why this happens. We will discuss those reasons and offer a good solution.

It might be fair to say that some people out there find web maintenance work as boring or below their pay grade. This work may not seem too glamorous and people in the company IT department may not favor doing it since there are things that could go wrong. When that does happen, they may not know the best way to fix things. So there is no incentive for them to do web site updates.

When doing website maintenance, you need to be careful and make certain you do a number of things:

1. Make sure you take a backup of what you are changing in case there are issues. This includes grabbing a full database back up if the website runs on a database.

2. Do the website updates and then make sure they look correct in different web browsers. How a website looks can greatly differ when you look at it on web browsers like Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer if the web site is not coded in a way that all browsers like.

3. Also check the update on different computer operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OSX.

If there happen to be issues, then it will take that person additional time to investigate them, fix them and then test things again.

Some Benefits of Getting the Work Completed by an Outside Firm

When website maintenance is done by someone in house who is not an expert at doing these tasks, you may be paying more than if you sent the work out of house.

If the work is not done the right way, then you are paying for them to fix it. If you have the work done out of house and it is not done right, then the web site design company that did the work must correct it for no charge.

Another thing is, if you give the work to someone that does not have the skills to do website maintenance work well, it is going to take them more time than someone who knows exactly what to do. Website updates are not always as easy as they sound especially since websites are more complicated on the back end now than before. They would also need to make sure they do testing. Someone that does this kind of work for a living gets the work done right and on time.

Who Should You Hire to do Website Maintenance?

The best kind of company to hire to do this work is a website design firm that has full time people on staff. They have people that they need to keep busy. When there is down time, they are losing money. They are experts and will do the right job for you, on time.

SEO Is Too Important To Be Left To Amateurs

Posted on 10 October 2009 by Ricardo d Argence

It seems everyone wants to be a search engine optimization specialist now; at the very least, it’s hard to turn around without seeing someone else trying to sell you their services as a SEO specialist. Of course, many if not most of these people are hardly successful with their own website’s SEO!

It isn’t that there are not talented SEO specialists and internet marketing consultants out there, but just as many who are inexperienced. As a result, these firms are at best unhelpful and at worst can actually hurt the page ranking of your website should you decide to use their services.

Why you Should Avoid the Amateurs. Essentially, you need to bear in mind that while any Tom, Dick, and Harry can learn about search engine optimization, it takes several years of dedication, practice, and careful analysis, in order to fully understand the different techniques, and how to apply different techniques to different types of business.

The bottom line is; a SEO campaign is in fact a highly intensive process that starts out with intense keyword research in order to establish which keywords are the most likely to produce maximum results for a website.

After identifying these keywords, many decide to just throw them into the site’s content and wait for their page ranking to rise. Unfortunately, it rarely works this way in the real world. For the most part, popular keywords are also highly competitive, meaning that it will be extremely difficult to get results with these keywords – and it can take half a year before the search engines even begin to take notice of your site.

By contrast, skilled internet marketing professionals know the difference between keywords and key phrases which get results and which don’t. These SEO experts are professionals who are also aware of other important factors such as placement. Where keywords appear on your site matters; improper placement can give the appearance of keyword stuffing, which is penalized by most search engines.

Because a professional SEO specialist appreciates the importance of being able to get a good return on investment, they will also make use of Analytics tools in order to track conversions and monitor the success of an internet marketing campaign. Bear in mind, that these tools are essential in order to fine tune any good SEO campaign.

Unfortunately, but also as is to be expected, the internet is full of undesirable people who focus entirely on targeting honorable businesses by means of providing them with false promises regarding guaranteed results. These people will more often than not guarantee that they will get your website to the top of the search rankings by using specific keywords.

There is a kernel of truth to the claims these unscrupulous firms make about being able to rank in the top slot for the keywords they suggest. Of course, these companies give you keywords to work with which no one searches – meaning that it is easy to rank first for them; but since no one uses these search terms, ranking does not equal more traffic in this case.

Promises such as getting your site to the top of the search results is characteristic of these unscrupulous (or at best, hopelessly amateurish) businesses. No legitimate internet marketing consultant will make these kind of promises; the algorithms used by the search engines change very often, so no one who knows how SEO really works would guarantee these kind of results.

The most important thing of all is that you acknowledge the fact that going with the wrong internet marketing company can end up costing you a considerable amount of money for nothing. On the other hand, if you choose to use the services of a reputable company, you can almost be certain that your website will end up ranking much higher than it did before.

What Would the Top Slot on Google be Worth to You?

Posted on 21 September 2009 by Owen Jones

I wonder whether you know just how much article submission software has improved over recent years? For instance, this article was written and submitted to thousands of directories, lists and blogs over a period of a month on auto-pilot by the world’s most advanced article management software.

Please, you don’t want to miss out on this, as it really is that important, if your online strategy involves promoting any kind of website on the Internet.

Simply put, there is simply no other traffic generation system that works better, costs less, and is completely immune to search engine changes.

Remember, this is not some fancy new black-hat technique. It is completely legitimate, completely solid, and completely reliable. This system will take your article, create thousands of variations and then post them to thousands of sites. All with your sites link in the by-line. But not only that! It only posts your article to sites that want sites like yours (based on your chosen keywords) and posts according to a schedule chosen by you: ie 10, 20, 50, 100, 1,000 posts a day, starting on any future date you choose! So you could write say, three articles and have the first one go out starting the next day at 300 a day; the second one starting after seven days at 100 sites a day; and the third starting after two weeks at a rate of 50 sites a day.

What IS really new is that this already well- established technique has now been put on steroids. It combines, for the first time ever, the power of article submissions with the benefits of unique content. And it does it in a way that is simplicity itself to use.

It is worthwhile devoting some time checking out this software, if you are seriously trying to promote something online. It will make your job easier by automating a lot of the problems associated with article submission.

Remember that an organic link on the first page of Google provides about 6 times the traffic of a sponsored (Adsense) link on the same page. Just how much would that be worth to you each month? Now multiply that by, say, a hundred or a thousand and you will begin to appreciate the value of this system!

SEO Tips, How to Improve Search Engine Optimization

Posted on 26 July 2009 by Ricardo d Argence

Since the ranking of a site in the search engines is largely responsible for the amount of organic traffic a blog or content receives, optimizing any site to increase its search engines exposure is an important aspect of any online marketing effort.

Search engine optimization, or “SEO,” means using technical and not-so-technical techniques to make sure that people searching for topics you write about will find your site.

After getting some great tips from a few site managers I know and doing additional research online I was able to improve the SEO for my site. I was able to distill these tips into some basics that are important to any site that wants a larger share of search engine traffic.

Sites that are just starting out should focus on getting plenty of incoming links. This is what Google uses to rank sites. More inbound links equals more authority.

When you are trying to increase traffic it’s important to remember no to go overboard with your SEO efforts. Google will catch on and lower your sites ranking if you create dummy pages and links for the sole purpose of increasing the exposure to your site for a specific keyword.

With those caveats in mind, lets look at some of the best SEO tips to implement.

Get both inbound and outbound links. While Google ranks your sites importance on the number of inbound links coming from other sites, it gives much more weight to in links from authority sites.

2. Headlines and title tags should have keywords up front. As you consider SEO for your site, think about the important keywords that people might search for in Google that would bring up your site.

Search engines seem to put more value on a keyword that used earlier in the page title. One drawback of using keyword filled headlines is that you aren’t able to be nearly as creative as those tabloid newspapers can be.

3. Web addresses for your blog posts or articles should include keywords. Similarly, it’s important that the URL for each story contains the keywords from your headline and even the category for the story.

Page descriptions should be removed if they are not unique. If you use the first sentence of the article on the page or simply use the same meta-description on each page, it’s not going to be as relevant as the description that Google can extract from your site. Therefore, if your description is identical on every page you are much better of removing it and letting Google generate it on its own.

Highlight each page’s best content. One feature that is commonly used by major news sites is a list of “Most emailed Stories” or” Today’s Top Stories”. Placing this list prominently on your site, on every page, would bring more traffic as will and more inbound links to the best content on your site and would serve as an introduction to your site if a visitor came to read a specific post.

Many readers will leave the site after reading only one they read the post they came for, but if you make it easy for them to find your very best work then they might stick around and read more or may even subscribe to your blog feed if they find your content compelling enough.

6. Limit tags and categories to the most important ones. You should highlight only the most important categories and putt the rest on another page. Too many tags causes there to be links that aren’t very useful. It’s better to limit tags to the most important keywords.

7. Create a Google News sitemap and optimize images. Google recommends that publishers submit special “sitemaps” to help the search engine to index your pages. Sitemaps are dynamic XML files that you submit to Google and are used by their spider to index your content.

The Importance Of Yahoo Sitemap

Posted on 06 July 2009 by Ferdinand Emy

A website pertains to a compilation of web pages that may be essentially accessed through a software package, ordinarily known as a web browser(one example is the http on the net ). These pages, which are inevitably and basically documents that are in the HTML or xhtml format(HTML stands for hyper text markup language ),are accessed from a ‘common root url’-or the website’s homepage(as most persons recognize it ). From this homepage, the visitor/internet user may browse or look through the whole website either with the use of the hyperlinks or the urls of the various web pages.

Viewed on computers and other gadgets that are available and capable of connecting with the net(suchlike pdas and cellular phones ),websites may be grouped into numerous types, contingent upon their use or the services that they offer. Many of them include:

Archive site- maintains and protects electronic contents for posterity

Business site-promotes a business or a service.

Commerce or ecommerce site-offers goods that are purchasable.

Community site-allows persons with affiliated and alike interests to communicate with one another(either through chat or message boards ).

Database site-searches and displays a peculiar database’s content.

Development site-provides selective information and roots that are affiliated to software development and web design, among others.

Directory site-holds broad-ranged contents that are normally grouped into categories and subcategories.

Download site-allows users to download electronic contents, suchlike game demos and software.

Game site-provides a ‘playground’ where persons meet and play.

Information site-holds selective information or content that have the only purpose and intent of informing visitants(not for mercantile intents ).

News site-dispenses or distributes news and commentaries(alike to an data site ).

Pornography site-shows pornographic videos and images.

Search engine site-provides common data and serves as a ‘gateway’ for other sites and resources(may likewise be a web portal site ).

Shock site-shows images and other means and materials that serves to offend readers.

Vanity site-a personal site that is run or maintained by somebody or a little group, the contents of which may be of any data that the site proprietor wishes to include.

Blog site or blogs-registers online readings and posts online diaries or discussion forums.

Wiki site-lets users to collaboratively edit the contents.

yahoo! Is perchance the most renowned example of a truly big website. The most accomplished and widely-utilized website, yahoo! Is a combination of the dissimilar types of sites- it is a directory site and a search engine site, among others.

Because of the enormous(and distant and diverse)amount of data that it holds, the yahoo! site map is an exceedingly useful feature in the yahoo! Website.

A site map is a web-page that lists the whole pages on a web site. coordinated in a hierarchical fashion, site maps may be in textual or visual form(a diagram or an effigy ).

The yahoo! site map serves as a blueprint for the yahoo! Website. Similar to a book’s table of contents, the yahoo! sitemap makes it easy for visitants or users to find personal and particular data or pages on the yahoo! Web site without even having to browse some pages, because the site map gives an overview or a visual profile and outline of the yahoo! Web site, with every section provided with active links to enable the user to directly move to a personal and particular page.

In addition, the yahoo! site map allows web developers to place links from all over their sites, making it easy for search engine robots(or engine spiders)to find these pages.

Because the yahoo! site map improves the search engine optimization of a site, this feature may be regarded a worthy tool for online venders, whose function and purpose is to stimulate and direct traffic to their web sites.

Note, however, that the yahoo! site map may only give you the ‘basics’. Because its crucial for web venders to ‘rank high’ on main search engines,an in-depth and efficient web promotion campaign that promotes your web site is likewise very much necessary. Below are many search engine systems to follow:

1. Write a descriptive page title at the top of your web page that fends off ‘filler’ words like “the” or “and”.

2. comprise descriptive keywords on your home page, along with your business name. This is called “keyword prominence”.

3. Include a description meta tag at the top of the web-page. This pertains to the sentences(1 or 2 lines, with a maximum of around 255 characters)that describe the content of your web-page.

How to Get More Targeted Traffic for Your Website

Posted on 03 June 2009 by Ricardo daryans

If you’ve got a business and have a website for it, you need targeted traffic to come to your website and stay long enough to see what you have to offer if you want to be successful. And, those visitors should also take action based upon what they see and what you want them to do.

The more time a visitor spends on your website, the more likely it is that that visitor will take action specific to what you want. One good way to do this is to entice visitors to keep clicking through the pages of your website. There are four easy ways you can increase page views.

1. Content is king. You may have also heard this saying elsewhere, but it’s doubly true on the Internet. Why? Because people are hungry for solid, real information that isn’t simply trying to “sell” them something. Provide this to them, and they’ll keep coming back for more. In addition, word-of-mouth can also bring others to your website simply because of the content you provide. And finally, search engines LOVE good, relevant content, which only increases your visibility. Provide good relevant content, and your site is sure to have solid, targeted traffic ” and high visibility, too.

2. Keep It Simple, Silly. Most of us have heard this phrase (KISS for short), but it especially applies to writing for the Web. If you have a difficult time writing short copy, take some time to train yourself to do just that.

The information you present should be concise and easy to read. Paragraphs should be short and to the point. It’s a well-known fact that Internet writing has to be shorter than print writing because people’s attention spans are shorter when they surf.

So instead of presenting an article that’s a thousand words long, present excellent, attention-getting content in shorter sentences (and articles) while still getting your message across. For example, you can break a long article up into several “chapter” installments that people can read in short spurts. Encourage people to go to the “next page” or “next section” by strategically placing a link at the bottom of each short “chapter.”

3. Format and highlight — carefully. You want tasteful headlines and phrases that pop when they need to and that stand out to hold your readers’ attention.

One good way to break up your content is to highlight key words and phrases. And, use plenty of space in between your text. It gives the eyes a rest of sorts and also helps people scan the content, which is a common habit of website readers. Break up longer articles into pages that deal with different sections of your theme and invite the visitor to view more by posting a link at the bottom of each section.

4. Put a site map and some article “teasers” on your first page to encourage people to click through to each “teaser’s” article and read more. (Site maps are also good for spiders as they crawl your pages, which in turn can increase your rankings with search engines.)

With these four easy steps, it should be easy to get people to come to your site — and stay. This will not only get you more page views, but it will also get you more targeted traffic, which in turn is only good for your business.
